Are You a Dog Lover?
Several of the members in the DFW Alumnae Association own a dog or are thinking about becoming a dog owner. Dogs are unmatched in their devotion, loyalty and friendship to people. The excitement your dog shows when you come home, the wagging tail at the sound of the leash being taken from its hook, the delight in the tossing of ball, and the head nestled in your lap-those are only some of the rewards of being a dog owner.
Owning a dog is not just a privilege-it's a responsibility. These animals rely on us for food and shelter, but deserve much more. If you are considering taking a dog into your life, you need to think seriously about the commitment that dog ownership entails. If you already have a dog, you need to consider if you are fulfilling all your obligations as its owner.
Yvonne Ybarra, member of our Association, discovered this love and passion for dogs several years ago when she unexpectedly became owner of Chewy, her 4 year old Pekingese. Like most new dog owners, Yvonne had very little knowledge about dogs and what their needs were to be happy and healthy. Like most of us, our first instinct by nature is to turn to Google to gather as much information of a particular subject, in Yvonne’s case all about dogs and their care. She soon came to realize that she didn’t know very much about dogs and their care and how much more she needed to know. At this time, Yvonne started wondering why there wasn’t a website that told her where she could take Chewy for his shots, for training, for baths, etc. in the city where she lived. This was her inspiration behind her idea of launching a website where one could find everything they needed to know about the dogs in the city of Dallas. In June of 2008, Yvonne’s dream became reality and she successfully launched DallasDogLife.com. From Adoption to Photography, DallasDogLife.com is truly a “one stop shop” for dog owners in the Dallas area. On her website, Yvonne explains what she hopes the public will benefit from visiting it:
“DallasDogLife.com strives to be the leading source of online information for Dallas-area dog lovers. We believe that our canine companions are members of our family, and deserve the best care that we can provide. Our goal is to promote the socialization of dogs by informing pet parents about dog-friendly events and establishments, research and provide feedback on local dog businesses, help educate the Dallas community about responsible dog care, and contribute to dog welfare organizations that care for unwanted dogs.

Not too long ago, Yvonne was interviewed about her website on the Lucky Dog Show, a radio show with listeners nationwide that is all about dog training, health, issues, trends, diets, products, giveaways and fun.
This has been a great achievement for Yvonne and a proud moment for the Association. We admire and are extremely proud of Yvonne for making this website a reality and for helping us dog owners find the information we need in one place. We encourage you to take the time to check out her website and show your support!
